Dakota Resource Council showed recently the award-winning film, Northern Lights, at the Fargo Theater. More than 400 people came out to see the film. Northern Lights details the organizing that went on at the turn of the century in North Dakota to form the Non-Partisan League (NPL).
Through the leadership of the NPL, North Dakota founded a state bank and a state mill, which helped protect farmers and ranchers from the unfair practices of banks and grain processors. The film’s director, John Hansen, and former North Dakota Agriculture Commission, Sara Vogel, participated in a question and answer session following the screening.
The film gained international fame when it won best first feature at the Cannes film fest in 1979.
